World Class Championship Wrestling

World Class Championship Wrestling was a Texas based promotion headed by former wrestler Fritz Von Erich. It was the home of his sons the Von Erichs. WCCW broke new grounds such as being the first promotion to use popular Rock n' Roll entrance music. It showcased young talent like Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Jake Roberts, Shawn Michaels, Jimmy Garvin, Iceman King Parsons, Rick Rude, and Chris Adams. It also had stars who already made a name for themselves in wrestling like Andre the Giant, Abdullah the Butcher, Mark Lewin, Bruiser Brody, Bugsy McGraw, Harley Race, and Ric Flair. Here's a tribute to the Texas Based Promotion

Top 5 Storylines
1. The Freebirds and Von Erich Feud

This is one the greatest feuds in Wrestling history. Originally the Freebirds and Von Erichs were friends. It was interesting when Freebird leader Michael P.S Hayes was the referee for the much anticipated Cage match between Ric Flair vs Kerry Von Erich for the NWA World Title. The feud began when Hayes knocked out Flair and tried to encourage Kerry to pin Flair. When Kerry didn't take the pin Terry Gordy slammed the cage door on Kerry. Which cost him the match. Following this match we saw the debut of the third Freebird Buddy "Jack" Roberts. We were also treated to tons of memorable matches like Cage Matches, Handcuffed match, numerous Six Man Tag Matches, and most notably the Badstreet Matches. We even saw other stars get involved in this feud like Iceman King Parsons, Chris Adams, Bruiser Brody, Jimmy Garvin, and even the Von Erich's father Fritz. This feud put WCCW on the map and gained them worldwide attention.

2. The Von Erichs vs The Freebirds vs Devastion Inc.

Originally the Freebirds brought in Killer Khan to destroy the Von Erichs. The backstory was that Khan and Terry Gordy were good friends from Japan. When Devastation Inc. leader Skandor Akbar got his hands of Khan it sparked an interesting 3-way feud. What we got was a very bloody Texas Death match between Khan and Gordy. Which is a must see match. We even saw on rare occasions the Von Erichs and The Freebirds team up against Devastion Inc.

3. Kevin Von Erich and Chris Adams Feud

The backstory is Chris Adams was the English Pen Pal of Kevin Von Erich and even was a trusted ally during the Von Erich and Freebirds feud. So when manager Gary Hart returned to WCCW he took Adams under his wing and during a Tag match with Kevin Von Erich Adams turned on him after Kevin attacked Gary Hart. What we got was a lot of competitive and very violent matches involving a wooden chair and lots of serious injuries. It was so violent that WCCW quickly dropped the angle.

4. Bruiser Brody vs Abdullah The Butcher

Talk about violence and hardcore then look no further than two of the wildest wrestlers ever in history Abdullah the Butcher and Bruiser Brody. Their matches were so bloody and brutal that it just didn't happened in WCCW but in places like Japan and Puerto Rico.

5. The Breakup of the Dynamic Duo

The Dynamic Duo was the combination of Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez. They formed right after Chris Adams turned heel. They spent most of 1984 and 1985 feuding with the Von Erichs. The turning point came during a Hair vs Hair Tag Match when the Dynamic Duo loss their hair. Chris Adams blamed the loss on Gino and for also refusing to tag him during a match. The feud culminated in another Hair vs Hair match between Adams and Hernandez. Throughout the match Adams had numerous opportunities to get the win but refuse. He to chose dish out more punishment. Just when the referee pulled Adams off. Hernandez took the hair cream and threw it in Adams eyes. The feud was suppose to continue but sadly Gino Hernandez died following this match due to a drug overdose.
